ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
_______________________________________________________________________________It would seem these days that Ant-Social Behavior is becoming increasingly more prominent in towns and cities all across the UK. Gangs of children with ages ranging from as young as 6 or 7 years old are roaming the streets predominately during the evening causing residents and motorists concern.
In the modern society we live in it is a shame that many young kids have to witness the decline in economics. They witness first hand their parent or parents struggling to keep a roof over their head and pay the bills. Many families can no longer afford expensive evenings out or trips to the cinema to keep the kids entertained, instead the kids turn to their friends in similar situations and congregate in and around their neighborhoods.
The boredom soon kicks in and often these youngsters some at the tender age of just 6 or 7 years old turn to smoking, drinking, vandalism, bullying or even stealing in order to pay for cigarettes or alcohol, sometimes even drugs!
They tend to hang around near play parks where toddlers will play during the day, sometimes forcing the the parents of the toddlers to clear up the mess left from the evening before, such as, bottles, cans, condoms and even syringes before their young children can play safe. This activity as any concerned parent can imagine fills many people with anger, frustration and annoyance that they have to endure this activity within their neighborhood.
Some communities are taking action, some are taking action against the children whilst others are approaching the problem more pro-actively by setting up supervised youth centers and coordinating volunteers to devise schemes in which the youths get become involved in and participate in an activity that gives them self esteem, confidence and skill.
Other communities simply do not have the time or the resources available, maybe they have tried but failed or are just simply sick to death of the escalating issues. Perhaps you know of a child who is involved in one of the gangs, perhaps it's one your own children? This is when the situation becomes real, for those parents it can be a nightmare, not knowing where you child is and waiting up all evening to see if they are escorted home by the police as a result of actions influenced by other sometimes older youths.
There are solutions believe it or not, a number of effective ways to reduce this ruthless activity can be offered, such as; CCTV, surveillance or pro-active community policing.
